Maranatha Church Beliefs

A. The Holy Scriptures:
We believe in the supernatural inspiration of the Holy Scriptures as it appears in the sixty six books of the Bible. It is the word of God, the absolute source of our faith and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:16; John 5:39)

B. God is the only one, the truth and is eternal:
We believe in the existence of God, the one true God, Supreme, Holy, Eternal, and Creator of the universe. He transcends all creation through his omnipresence. (Genesis 1:1; Psalms 19:1; Matthew 6:8-9)

C. The Divine Trinity:
We believe in the Divine Trinity, revealing itself through the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three persons are of the same essence, power, and eternity. They relate with each other and at the same time are distinct. (Matthew 3:16-17; 28:19)

D. Jesus Christ is the son of God:
We believe in Jesus Christ as the second person in the Divine Trinity, his virginal birth, his life without sin, in his miracles, his crucifixion, in his vicarious sacrifice, his resurrection and ascension to heaven. He took natural human form, died, and resurrected in order to save us. (Matthew 1:18; John 1:1-14; 3:16; Luke 24: 13-51)

E. The Holy Spirit:
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person in the Divine Trinity. It dwells within the believer and guides him to all truth and justice. (Acts 1:8; 2:4; 13:2)

F. The Creation:
We believe that God created all things visible and invisible. (Genesis 1:1; 1:31; 2:12; Psalm 24:1; Hebrews 11:3)

G. Mankind:
We believe that man was created in God’s image to be in perfect communion with his creator. We believe that man was given attributes of sanctity, wisdom, free will, and natural affections. We believe that man was the crowning of glory of creation and was the object of special care from God. (Genesis 1:26-28; Psalm 8:5-8)

H. The fall of mankind and his redemption:
We believe that man fell for his transgression by his own free will. We believe that the only means of redemption is by accepting the redemption plan provided by God in the person of his son Jesus Christ. (Genesis 3:15; John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10)

I. Salvation:
We believe that man can be saved from his transgression through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ (His blood) made on the cross of Calvary (Ephesians 2:8); and that man is justified by faith in Christ (Romans 5:1); and that man is an heir to eternal life (John 3:16; Titus 3:7). We believe that salvation can only be obtained by believing in Christ (Luke 19:9; John 5:24) and that it is imperative to remain faithful to Him. (Matthew 24:13; John 15:4-5; Hebrews 2:1-2)

J. Baptism in the Waters:
We believe in the ordination of water baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19) We believe according to the scriptures that in order to be baptized you need to have the knowledge of what sin is. Therefore we do not baptize children (Mark 16:16)

K. The Lord’s Supper:
We believe in the ordination to practice the Lord’s Supper. It consists of bread and fruit from the vine (non-alcoholic). It symbolizes the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. It constitutes a remembrance of his suffering, death, and is a prophecy of his second coming. (Matthew 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:13-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26). We believe that the participants should be believers who have been baptized and are in good standing with their church.

L. Baptism with the Holy Spirit:
We believe that all believers have the privilege to receive God’s promise concerning the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It is a supernatural experience for the new believer upon being born again. It equips us to live a life in sanctity and to be more effective in service and in doing the Lord’s work. (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:8; 2:4; 8:14-17)

M. Sanctification:
We believe that it is necessary to live a sanctified life without which no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14; 1 Thessalonians 4:3). Sanctification can only be obtained through Christ’s death. (Hebrews 2:11; 10:14; 13:12; 1 Corinthians 1:30) Afterwards the Holy Spirit’s influence will be one of perfecting God’s work within the believer, equipping him for a life of sanctity. (John 17:16-19; 1 Thessalonians 5:22-24) Sanctification is a clear process of separation from the worldly form of living into one that is acceptable to a Holy God.

N. Divine Healing:
We believe in the biblical promise relative to Divine Healing. The church receives the authority from our Lord Jesus Christ to heal the sick in his name. (Psalms 103:3; Isaiah 53:4-5; Mark 16:18; James 5:14)

O. The Second Coming of Christ:
We believe in the second coming of Christ (Acts 1:11) with the following events:

1. The Rapture of the church and that this event will occur before the Great Tribulation. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17).
2. The second manifestation of Christ in a corporal and visible form and that he will establish a millennial kingdom here on earth. (Matthew 24:30; Acts 1:11; Revelations 1:7; 5:10; 11:15; Daniel 7:14; 1 Corinthians 15:25)
3. The Final Judgment with retribution to Eternal Life for the believers and Eternal Punishment for the unbelievers. (2 Peter 3:7)

P. Marriage:
We believe in the biblical teachings that marriage was instituted by God between one man (by birth) and one woman (by birth). (Genesis 1:27; Matthew 19:5-6; Romans 1:27)
